The lessons of Socrates
By Louis D. Thorpe

Truth about lies

According to Socrates, a just society requires a marriage between political power and the wisdom of philosophy, leading to his assertion that the King must become a philosopher or the philosopher, a King.

The storm of controversy that deluged Socrates was due, not because he was unjust, but because he dispelled the illusions of those in power.

The philosophy he proposed was very simple. A just society must be governed by men of reason and a just man freely chooses to govern himself by reason.

The world is complicated because those who control and distort knowledge for their own purposes, currently dominate and they maintain power by distorting the facts to suit their own prejudices.

Bigots and autocrats do not expose their flaws. They re-invent them and blame others for the chaos they are responsible for creating. Even intelligent people who are overcome by prevailing prejudices, inadvertently advance the agenda of ant-intellectuals.

In his Princciples of Philosophy, Rene Decartes wrote, "The chief cause of human error is to be found in the prejudices picked up in childhood". Teach your children well, or they will go to hell.

Voltaie said it better; "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities." He further said, "We are all full of weakness and errors; let us mutually pardon each other our follies -it is the the first law of nature."

In 1993, when Bill Clinton was President, Professor Jean Ralston Saul published Voltaire's Bastard's and in it, he wrote, "A civilization unable to differentiate between illusion and reality is usually believed to be at the tail end of its existence." Today, most people clearly understand that, it took us a very long time to convince the rest of you that we were right all along and it is consequently time to either reverse course or to continue to decline.

And please read this, to be able to understand the differences between illusion and reality.
